The jury is still out re: the inspiration for the Baby
Ruth bar. The manufacturer has claimed that the candy
was created as a tribute to President Grover
Cleveland's daughter Ruth, who died in 1904 at the age
of 12. Since the candy bar didn't debut until 1921--by
which time Babe Ruth was already a legend--many
believe that the Curtiss Candy Company was exploiting
The Bambino's valuable name. (1 page)
